What this session covers

Most people who want to try gymnastics at home run into the same problem: they jump straight into moves they saw online and strain something within the first week. This webinar addresses that gap directly, starting with what your body actually needs before any skill work begins.

We cover floor positioning, joint mobility baselines, and how to assess your own range of motion using nothing but a mat and a wall. You will learn which preparatory drills build the connective tissue strength that gymnastics demands, and why skipping them is the most common reason progress stalls.

The session includes a breakdown of the forward roll, cartwheel, and basic bridge, with clear cues for each stage. Instructor Petra Vanlith demonstrates common errors and how to self-correct when training alone. There is no equipment requirement beyond a 2x3 metre clear floor space.

Participants also receive a printed drill card they can pin up at home. The webinar runs live with a 20-minute Q&A; at the end, so you can ask about your specific limitations or space constraints before you start training on your own.

Session outline

  1. Body Readiness Check

    Self-assessment for wrist load tolerance, hip flexor length, and spinal mobility using simple tests you can do before the session ends.

  2. Floor Positioning Fundamentals

    Hollow body, arch, and tuck shapes - the three positions that underpin almost every gymnastics skill at this level.

  3. Preparatory Drill Sequences

    Six drills targeting shoulders, hips, and thoracic spine, with progressions for different starting flexibility levels.

  4. Skill Introduction: Roll, Cartwheel, Bridge

    Step-by-step breakdown of each skill with error correction cues designed for solo practice.

  5. Live Q&A;

    Open question period focused on individual limitations, space setup, and weekly training structure.
