What this session covers

Passive stretching alone does not produce the flexibility gymnastics requires. The difference between a dancer who can do the splits and a gymnast who can use that range in a skill is active strength through that range. This webinar addresses both sides of the equation.

Instructor Noa Breitfeld covers loaded progressive stretching, end-range strengthening, and how to sequence flexibility work within a home training session so it does not interfere with skill practice. The content draws on current understanding of how connective tissue adapts to load, translated into practical drill selection rather than theory.

Three flexibility areas receive detailed attention: hip flexors and hamstrings for split positions, thoracic and shoulder extension for back walkovers and bridges, and hip external rotation for straddle shapes. Each section includes a diagnostic test, a primary drill, and two progressions depending on current range.

Participants at this level are assumed to have at least six months of consistent gymnastics or dance training. The webinar does not cover foundational mobility work. A 30-minute Q&A; closes the session, with Noa responding to questions about sticking points and plateau management in long-term flexibility training.

Session outline

  1. Active vs Passive Range: What the Difference Means in Practice

A clear explanation of why passive range often does not transfer to skill execution, with examples from bridge and split positions.

  2. Loaded Progressive Stretching

How to apply progressive overload principles to flexibility training, including load selection and session frequency.

  3. Hip and Hamstring Work for Splits

Diagnostic test, primary drill, and two progressions for front and side split development.

  4. Thoracic and Shoulder Extension

Targeted drills for back walkover and bridge positions, with notes on common compensations to avoid.

  5. Hip External Rotation for Straddle Shapes

End-range strengthening for straddle positions used in press handstands and split leaps.

  6. Session Sequencing

Where to place flexibility work in a home training session relative to skill practice and strength work.

  7. Q&A;: Plateau Management

Open discussion on training history, sticking points, and adjustments for long-term flexibility development.
